BEATCAMP Mixer Knowledgebase

A simple guide to the tools Junior DJs use to load songs, mix, and practice real DJ skills in BEATCAMP.

What is the BEATCAMP Mixer?

The BEATCAMP Mixer is a web-based DJ app designed for Junior DJs. It lets you load songs, play music, mix between two decks, use effects, trigger samples, and practice real DJ skills in a safe, simple setup.

You can use BEATCAMP with your keyboard and mouse or connect a supported controller like the DJ2GO2 Touch, Party Mix II, or Hercules Inpulse 200.

Mixer Layout Overview

The BEATCAMP Mixer is split into three main areas:

  1. Deck A (left side)
  2. Mixer (middle section)
  3. Deck B (right side)

Each deck can play a different song. The middle mixer controls how they sound together.

Deck A & Deck B

Deck A and Deck B are where songs live and play. Each deck has tools to control playback, timing, and performance features.

What you’ll see on each deck

  • Waveform: the “shape” of the music
  • BPM: how fast the song is (beats per minute)
  • Play / Pause: start or stop the song
  • Hot Cues: jump to saved spots
  • Loop controls: repeat a section
  • Performance Pads: trigger samples or cues
  • Deck Volume fader: how loud that deck can be

Loading Songs

You can load songs into BEATCAMP in two ways:

Option 1: Drag & Drop

Drag a song from your Library and drop it onto Deck A or Deck B.

Option 2: Load Buttons

Click Load A or Load B next to a song in your Library.

Tip: After a song is loaded, press Play on that deck to hear it.

Play Controls & Sound Checks

Each deck has controls for starting and stopping music:

  • Play: starts the music
  • Pause / Stop: stops the music
  • Cue: returns to the start or a saved point (depending on your settings)

If you can’t hear sound

  • Check your device volume (computer/tablet)
  • Check the deck’s Volume fader
  • Check the Crossfader (it might be pointed at the other deck)
  • Press Play again

The Middle Mixer (Volume + Crossfader)

The middle mixer is where you blend Deck A and Deck B.

Volume faders

  • Control how loud each deck can be
  • If a deck’s volume fader is down, you won’t hear that deck

Crossfader

  • Left = mostly Deck A
  • Right = mostly Deck B
  • Middle = both decks together

Tip: If you can’t hear a deck, check its volume fader first, then check the crossfader.

Effects (Echo + Filter)

BEATCAMP includes two simple effects for learning:

  • Echo: repeats the sound like a short echo
  • Filter: removes high or low sound to make transitions smoother

How to use effects

  1. Turn the effect on
  2. Listen carefully
  3. Turn it off when you’re done

Tip: Effects usually sound best when used gently and timed on the beat.

Hot Cues

Hot Cues let you save a spot in a song and jump back to it instantly. They’re great for choruses, drops, or your favorite moment.

How to use Hot Cues

  1. Play the song
  2. Press a Hot Cue button to save the spot
  3. Press that Hot Cue again to jump back

Loops

Loops repeat a section of a song over and over. DJs use loops to keep music going while preparing the next move.

Why DJs use loops

  • Keep energy steady while getting the next song ready
  • Practice mixing timing
  • Create a build-up

Loop basics

  1. Choose a loop length (like 4 or 8 beats)
  2. Turn the loop on
  3. Turn it off when you’re ready

Samples & Performance Pads

Samples are short sounds like claps, shouts, or sound effects. In BEATCAMP, you trigger them with Performance Pads.

How to use samples

  1. Download samples from the Sound Stash
  2. Import them into BEATCAMP
  3. Assign them to pads
  4. Tap pads on the beat to trigger sounds

Tip: Samples sound best on beat 1 or beat 3 when you’re counting 1–2–3–4.

Keyboard & Controller Support

Keyboard / mouse

  • Use the on-screen buttons, sliders, and pads
  • Great for beginners and classrooms

DJ controllers

BEATCAMP supports beginner-friendly controllers such as:

  • Numark DJ2GO2 Touch

  • Hercules Inpulse 200

Controllers can make DJing feel more physical, with real knobs, pads, and faders.
